The words

One word, three meanings

Ruach.Hebrew for wind, breath and spirit. “The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:2).
Neshamah.Hebrew for the breath God breathed into Adam, “the breath of life” (Genesis 2:7).
Pneuma.Greek for wind, breath and spirit. “The wind bloweth where it listeth” (John 3:8).
Spiritus.Latin, from spirare, to breathe. Our word “spirit” still carries the breath in it.

Scripture never separates the breath in our lungs from the Spirit who gives it.
